Cabell Huntington Hospital is now accepting applications for Nurse Extern positions—an excellent opportunity for nursing students to gain hands-on clinical experience and work alongside experienced Registered Nurses in a supportive learning environment.

January Start – Applications open October1

May Start – Applications open March 1

ASN students who have completed the first semester of their program

BSN students who have completed the first semester of their sophomore year

Weekly

Hours:

12 hours/week is ideal. Flexible scheduling and hours

• Medical-Surgical
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Emergency Room (ER)
• Pediatrics
• Mother/Baby

For students entering the final year of their nursing program

Unit-based placements in:

• Med-Surg
• ICU
• ER
• Women’s and Children’s units

Externs may shadow an RN and perform skills under supervision

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with hospital and nursing policies, the Nurse Extern supports patient care by performing routine clinical tasks aligned with their level of training and experience.

Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program (sophomore level or higher)

CPR certification required

Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients and staff
