Position InformationTitle: Carpenter Lead
Location: MU - Marshall University
Salary Range: $38,389 - $43,396 (Salary Grade 3, full-time)
Responsibilities- Perform skilled carpentry work in construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of building structures and facilities.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, direction, and support to the carpentry team, ensuring quality workmanship, safe practices, and timely completion of assignments.
- Assist with planning, assigning, and reviewing work; assume shop management responsibilities in the absence of the Shop Manager.
- Practice preventive maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment.
- Comply with federal safety and environmental regulations; properly handle hazardous materials.
- Ensure work and repairs are completed in accordance with work orders or verbal instructions.
- Valid driver’s license maintained during employment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of carpentry methods and practices; at least 18 months of technical or vocational education beyond high school.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes.
- Mathematical skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Demonstrates safety requirements and good safety habits.
- Legally and safely operates university vehicles when picking up or delivering parts and equipment.
- Good hand and eye coordination.
- Proper and safe operation of tools and machinery.
- Ensures jobs are completed on schedule.
- Independent completion of tasks with minimal supervision.
- Analyzes and fixes problems to minimize downtime.
- Understanding of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
- Identifies and solves problems affecting equipment and process performance.
- Available for work after hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Designated essential employee; must report as scheduled when offices are closed.
- Effective written and oral communication.
- Works safely on ladders, scaffolding, and man lifts.
- Physical endurance: stand, climb, pull, and lift heavy objects; work in inclement weather.
- Ability to read, follow, and interpret safety rules and guidelines.
- Knowledge of carpentry tools, equipment, and materials.
- Physically agile and dexterous.
- Ability to prioritize and manage urgency.
- Professional demeanor; courteous and respectful to officials, staff, and the public.
- Calm under pressure; assume responsibility for actions.
- Apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Work week is 37.5 hours.
- Almost two weeks off for Winter Break.
- 13 paid holidays.
- Annual leave: up to 24 days per year (max 360 hours); sick leave: up to 18 days per year.

Experience performing carpentry in higher education, healthcare, or large institutional facilities; supervisory experience.
