Description
This is a Full Time position at 38 hours per week located at the Huntley Primary Care clinic (Internal Medicine & Pediatrics). Schedule is Monday through Friday, with the hours varying between 7a-5p plus an occasional Saturday, 8a-12p.
The Medical Assistant reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Medical Assistant is a member of the health care team primarily responsible for providing support to physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. They ensure efficient patient flow through the clinic; maintain neat, clean and safe patient care areas; promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner;
and safeguard patient confidentiality.
- Ensure efficient patient flow by escorting patients to exam rooms, confirming identities, documenting visit details, and promptly notifying providers of significant changes in vital signs or symptoms.
- Assist practitioners with medical and surgical procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived testing.
- Maintain high quality care by preparing and stocking exam rooms, disinfecting and sterilizing equipment, participating in environmental safety rounds, maintaining inventory, monitoring equipment performance, and following opening and closing procedures.
- Promote patient satisfaction through professional, friendly interactions; accept delegated responsibilities positively; offer assistance to colleagues; attend staff meetings; and communicate effectively with patients and the patient care team.
- Perform delegated procedures safely, effectively, and efficiently (see specialty practice addendum).
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current certification in one of the following or written proof of eligibility: AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA.
- For New MA Graduates within six months of graduation: submit a letter from the school or certifying body.
- For Non-Certified MAs or new graduates beyond six months: submit a letter from the certifying body.
- Within the first six months of employment, complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts: CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), NCMA (NCCT), CCMA (NHA), or NRCMA (NAHP).
- Signed acknowledgement during onboarding that certification must be attained within six months.
- American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
- Zero to two years of relevant experience.
- Strong computer skills.
Preferred:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
- One to two years of ambulatory care experience.
- Experience with electronic medical records.
