Night Shift How You Will Contribute

This is a full‑time position responsible for supporting inventory operations by receiving, storing, tracking, and distributing materials to ensure accurate inventory and a consistent flow of production. This role requires strong attention to detail, effective time management, and clear communication while working in a structured, fast‑paced environment. With minimal guidance, the Inventory Technician follows established processes, utilizes inventory systems and equipment, and contributes to operational efficiency through accurate documentation, responsiveness to shop needs, and reliable execution of inventory tasks.

This level requires strong decision‑making, proactive communication, and the ability to self‑manage a complex workload as just as important as technical proficiency.

  • Receive and put away complex inventory items (e.g., hydraulics packages, large purchased parts), applying sound judgment to validate counts, resolve documentation discrepancies, and only escalated items that truly require it.
  • Label all parts and assign/confirm bin locations before storage, applying careful attention to detail to prevent downstream errors in the parts room or yard.
  • Use powered equipment to unload and store inventory operating up to full mast height, following safety procedures and exercising sound judgment around equipment operation.
  • Move and store large municipal truck attachments (plows, dump bodies, spreaders) using appropriate powered equipment and rigging, recognizing when to ask for guidance before proceeding.
  • Operate outside in inclement weather while maintaining safety, focus, and consistent productivity—demonstrating reliability and personal discipline regardless of conditions and maintaining yard standards without waiting to be directed.
  • Release shop orders, print shop paperwork, create clipboards, and pull/issue parts to build job carts, managing time effectively to keep pace with production schedules and anticipate needs before they become urgent.
  • Ship material (parcel and LTL) using prescribed systems, completing all required documentation with accuracy and without prompting and managing each shipment from start to close with accountability and attention to detail.
  • Respond to inventory requests from the shop floor in a timely manner, communicating clearly about availability, location, or delays and ensuring all communication is proactive rather than reactive.
  • Lead routine cycle counts and inventory audits, researching and correcting discrepancies in the system with confidence and thoroughness.
  • Use email and system tools to receive direction, communicate task status, and document issues—building the habit of clear, professional communication from day one and closing the loop on issues with minimal oversight.
  • Follow standard work and job aids closely and communicate proactively when conditions differ from the expected example rather than guessing.
  • Manage their own time within assigned tasks and use good judgment about when to ask for help versus proceed independently.
  • Develop trust with Inventory Technician II and Inventory Technician Lead staff through consistent follow‑through, clear communication, and a reliable work ethic.
  • Demonstrate strong time management and prioritization skills, independently balancing competing tasks without requiring direction on sequencing.
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision‑making on common issues (negative inventory, no primary bin, receiving/invoicing mismatches), escalating only when a situation is genuinely complex or systemic.
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with the Lead and cross‑functional partners, flagging risks early and offering solutions rather than just surfacing problems.
  • Informally support Inventory Technician I employees through mentorship and modeling—demonstrating patience, clarity in communication, and a coaching mindset.
