Staff Accountant
Huntsville, AL / Fully Onsite / 8:00 – 4:30 M-F
Salary Range: $60,000 - $72,800
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to support general ledger integrity, project accounting, and government contract compliance. This role plays a key part in supporting audits in a highly regulated environment. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail‑oriented, and well-versed in accounting.
Key Responsibilities – Staff Accountant
- Prepare and own balance sheet reconciliations; resolve discrepancies promptly
- Post complex journal entries including accruals, allocations, and adjustments
- Maintain accuracy and alignment between the general ledger and subledgers
- Support and lead month‑end and year‑end close activities
- Assist in preparing financial statements and internal reporting
- Conduct variance analysis and resolve identified issues
- Support project accounting, cost allowability, and revenue recognition
- Assist with indirect rate analysis and Incurred Cost Submission (ICS) support
- Perform inventory and fixed asset reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, CAS, GAAP, and DCAA requirements
- Support internal control initiatives and audit readiness
- Participate in process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency
- Review and help refine internal policies and business processes
- Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations and leadership
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications – Staff Accountant
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of staff accounting experience in a government contracting environment
- Hands-on Deltek Costpoint experience (highly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and month-end close process
- Working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA compliance (preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or project-based environment (preferred
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- High attention to detail and critical thinking abilities
- Strong communication skills
