Position: Announcement of Associate Professor of Water Resources
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Department of Atmospheric & Earth Science (AES) at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invites applications for a tenured or tenure-earning faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: hydrology, land-cover/land-use change, drought, irrigation, agriculture and food security, flooding and flood forecasting, evapotranspiration, precipitation, hydrometeorology, water quality, water policy, and water resource management.

The successful candidate will advance understanding of the Earth's water cycle in a changing climate using observational, numerical modeling, and/or data science (machine learning/artificial intelligence) approaches. The position emphasizes research that contributes to improving water quality, food security, agricultural practices, and/or mitigating the impacts of drought and flooding. Primary responsibilities include research, teaching, and service to the department, university, and profession.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Earned doctorate in a field relevant to water resources (e.g., Earth/Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or closely related discipline).

* Evidence of an exemplary research record including high quality peer reviewed publications and demonstrated success in building an externally funded, independent research

* Prior experience with securing research funding from federal, state, or industry sources in the United States.

* Commitment to teaching and student mentoring.

* Record of professional service appropriate to the career stage.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in undergraduate and graduate teaching, curriculum development, and student advising.

* Evidence of mentoring undergraduate and graduate students towards degree publication.

* National/international recognition in water resources or related areas.

Position Responsibilities:

* Lead an independent, cutting-edge research program and build a strong, extramurally funded portfolio with national/international visibility.

* Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in AES, including required courses.

* Contribute to curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

* Mentor and advise undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students.

* Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: UAH's Department of Atmospheric & Earth Science is co-located with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center's Earth Science Branch in the National Space Science and Technology Center on the UAH campus. AES offers B.S. and M.S. programs in Atmospheric and Earth Science with concentrations in Earth System Science (ESS) and Atmospheric Science (ATS), and an ATS Ph.D. program. The department includes 15 full-time faculty, 20+ affiliate faculty, and enrolls 40+ graduate and 90+ undergraduate students.
