JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the budget, labor, equipment, tooling and process of new welded products being introduced into our production facilities. Work closely with product engineering and design to steer the development and DFAM of new designs. Manage the budget, schedule and acquisition of new weld tooling through design, run-off and into SOP.
Responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. Their duties include researching automation techniques, testing new systems for efficiency and planning factory layouts to optimize production.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Apply expert knowledge of welding processes, procedures, equipment, and evaluation methods to deliver safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Develop, implement, and optimize manual and automated welding processes for New Product Introduction (NPI), including equipment specification and recommendations.
- Define, specify, review, approve, and procure manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and equipment in coordination with tool designers and suppliers.
- Analyze manufacturing methods, process flow, equipment utilization, and material flow to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
- Establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes using engineering principles, data analysis, and best practices.
- Develop and qualify welding specifications, standards, and guidelines in support of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support DFM activities by reviewing designs, influencing GD&T, tolerances, datum structures, and measurement strategies to improve manufacturability and quality.
- Advocate for platforming, commonality, automation, and adherence to established manufacturing best practices.
- Define and implement strategies related to tooling, manual vs. robotic welding, automation, robot changeover, layout, and future‑state manufacturing capability.
- Participate in supplier runoffs, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and onsite commissioning to ensure production‑ready assets.
- Develop capital equipment studies, support capital expenditure decisions, and assist with departmental budget planning.
- Evaluate manufacturing costs, including make vs. buy decisions, standard cost models, and cost‑reduction opportunities.
- Partner cross‑functionally with production, engineering, quality, SIOP, suppliers, and leadership to deliver class‑leading products.
- Support development and maintenance of PDP Manufacturing Plans and Process FMEAs.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and processes as needed.
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with all safety regulations.
- Support special projects as assigned.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering. Weld Engineering or Weld Technology degree preferred.
- 3-7 years of Mfg. Engineering experience. Lean Manufacturing knowledge is desirable and strongly preferred.
- 3-5 years of Applied Weld Engineering experience required.
- Automation and process flow background and experience.
- Extensive knowledge in the GMAW process as well as resistance spot welding.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Change Agent – skill with embracing and enabling change and strong influencing abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written skills required (English)
- Proficiency with PC s (MS Office) and CAD software.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and mechanic skills.
- Hands-on individual with detailed trouble shooting capabilities.
- Strong Project Management skills.
- Desire to work on, ride, and improve industry-leading powersports products.
- Fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to travel up to 25% required
