Position: Project Integrator - Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS)

Position Description

The Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) Ground Support Engineer provides support to project management for various ECLSS projects with NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) Life Support Systems Projects Office at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

Responsibilities
  • Coordinating with project management in support of the various ECLSS projects to develop, write and/or integrate technical, process and programmatic documents.
  • Develop proposals and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROMs) for Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution (PPBE) and other solicitations.
  • Support the project manager in the development of status presentations, risk charts, and oversight of the project.
  • Work with the Project Scheduler to adjust and integrate inputs to the Project schedule and critical path.
  • Work with project manager to ensure risks are identified, reviewed, mitigation plans are adequate and clearly stated.
  • Support the development and/or review of data products, plans, and deliverables. Provide inputs, edits, redlines, etc. Identify disconnects between the various products.
  • Attend, participate, and support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) and Project Reviews, with other project related duties as assigned.
  • Screen Test Preparation Sheets (TPS) and other documents and provide inputs/corrections to achieve desired test results.
Qualifications

A degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, physics or equivalent with significant experience in systems engineering/systems management, including experience in systems/technical integration is required. Degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience.

  • Direct experience with ISS Facility/Payloads/Systems and coordination of multi-disciplines, schedule, and risk management during the DDT&E phase of an engineering development project is required.
  • Desirable: an Engineer who is pro-active, a good communicator, is organized, and skilled with Microsoft Project/Office/Access products.
  • Highly desirable: direct knowledge of MSFC processes; familiarization with the evaluation process for ISS Change Requests and coordinating dispositions with ISS System Problem Resolution Team (SPRT) and Program boards and panels such as the Multilateral Vehicle Control Board (MVCB), Space Station Payload Control Board (SSPCB), and Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) board; and working experience with all ISS related databases including, but not limited to, the VMDB, EDMS, and Imagery Data.

Work Environment

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
