Our client, an established multi-discipline engineering firm, is seeking a Geotechnical Project Manager (PE) to support and help grow its Huntsville, Alabama office. This is a key leadership role for an experienced geotechnical engineer who enjoys project ownership, client interaction, and contributing to the growth of a developing office.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical and project management experience, local market knowledge, and an entrepreneurial mindset—someone who wants to help build and expand a successful geotechnical practice within a growing regional presence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage geotechnical engineering projects from proposal development through final delivery
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal teams
- Plan and oversee subsurface investigations, including drilling programs, field testing, and laboratory testing
- Perform and/or review geotechnical analyses and engineering reports (foundations, retaining walls, pavements, slopes, earthwork, etc.)
- Prepare proposals, scopes of work, schedules, and fee estimates
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and profitability
- Provide technical oversight, mentoring, and QA/QC review of junior engineers and staff
- Coordinate with drilling subcontractors, laboratories, and other consultants
- Support business development efforts, including client meetings, pursuits, and relationship building
- Contribute to the growth and strategic direction of the Huntsville office
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (Alabama or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- 4+ years of geotechnical engineering experience
- Proven experience managing geotechnical projects, budgets, and schedules
- Strong technical background in geotechnical investigations, analysis, and reporting
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects
- Preferred Experience & Attributes
- Local knowledge of the Huntsville / North Alabama market, soils, and construction practices
- Experience supporting or leading business development efforts
- Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in helping grow a developing office
- Experience with commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or government projects
- Ties to the local community are a plus, but not required
