Mechanical Discipline Manager

Mechanical Engineering Discipline Manager – Huntsville, AL

Dewberry is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Discipline Manager who will lead and inspire the engineering team. An accomplished Professional Engineer is required to oversee proposal generation and effectively assign resources across our discipline areas.

• Accomplished Professional Engineer with 15+ years of experience
• In-depth knowledge of the construction process, familiar with AIA and state construction contracts
• Extensive experience in staff and department management
• Proven experience in the design of various MEP systems
• Strong conceptual understanding of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems, including system operation, space requirements, and cost
• Experience with Design/Build projects is a plus

• Lead proposal generation and resource allocation within the discipline area
• Provide engineering resources to Project and Client Managers to facilitate innovative design solutions aligned with client desires and budget
• Assist with direct MEP sales and support sales efforts for multidisciplinary projects
• Supervisory: grow, mentor, and develop staff; conduct minimum annual evaluations; provide technical guidance and leadership
• Recruit staff, including networking, interviewing, and deal closing
• Technical and quality oversight of all discipline work; establish and improve standards; adhere to design schedule and project budget
• Notify Project/Client Managers of schedule or budget issues at least two weeks in advance
• Ensure adherence to project scope and identify additional services when applicable
• Identify design team, senior staff, and Engineer of Record; provide general progress updates
• Coordinate with all disciplines and outside consultants; deliver on‑the‑spot advice, decisions, and cost estimates

Discipline Managers will control production resources and commitments, prioritizing project assignments, delivery due dates, and workload capacity.

• Professional Engineer with 15+ years of experience
• Knowledgeable of construction process, AIA and state contracts
• Self‑motivated with strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
• Experience in staff/department management
• Experience designing MEP systems and document preparation using BIM/Revit
• Well organized, takes good notes, and maintains conceptual understanding of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems
