Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer, Software – TRK (25-568), to join our team of talented, diverse professionals. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is crucial in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position OverviewThe Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2
BMC) program is a key part of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that allows the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, monitor the battle collectively, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapons systems to meet global and regional mission objectives. C2
BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that provide an optimized response to threats of all ranges during all flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both globally and regionally to enhance performance. C2
BMC is crucial for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate current and future missile defense system capabilities.
This position is for a Software Engineer on the C2
BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for developing software in Java for the Regional Applications / Track Server team in Huntsville.
- Conduct in-depth analysis and provide technical support for systems software products, including complex problem solving, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user assistance.
- Maintain software updates, debug, and configure related products.
- Use specifications to develop or modify operating system applications.
- Support designing, coding, bench‑span testing, debugging, and documenting programs.
- Work with other support groups to solve problems, set standards, and boost overall efficiency of the operating system.
- Design, code, test, and implement tools for automating operations.
- Handle most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minimal instruction and guidance in other areas.
- Employ software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration.
- Maintain excellent oral and written communication skills and work effectively in a fast‑paced, team environment.
