MainDuties & Responsibilities
Job Summary: Research, plans, and designs electrical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties with a moderate level of proficiency.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Researches and analyzes data such as vendor design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Designs automation systems that utilize robots, VFD devices, PID controlled devices and mechanical, electrical, thermal, fluid power, or heat transfer systems.
- Designs, programs, maintains and troubleshoots PLC controls for industrial manufacturing equipment.
- Designs, programs and maintains user interface for machines and systems.
- Designs systems that are compliant with all current environmental and safety regulations, including OSHA, NEC, NFPA and Arc Flash.
- Produces and maintains wiring diagrams and schematics in AutoCAD.
- Reviews new designs for production ability, considering cost, quality, safety, delivery, production capabilities.
- Plans and directs engineering, maintenance, and production personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
- Directs and coordinates installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design, production and safety requirements.
- Coordinates operations, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
- Proposes design improvements for current equipment including upgrades for obsolete equipment and recommendations for needed spare equipment.
- Evaluates field fabrications and installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
- Supports plant production and maintenance with troubleshooting and repair of “down” equipment.
- Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
This role is required to be on-site 5 days at the Huntsville, AL location.
QualificationsEducation and
Work Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Three to five years of experience in programming PLC and other control devices used in material handling and other heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
Physical Requirements: This position requires the mental ability to read and comprehend policies, procedures, instructions, etc., to write reports, to use logic and data to solve problems, to assess needs, to communicate effectively, and varying degrees of independence, judgment, and discretion. This position requires the physical ability to be mobile in an office and industrial environment, to be able to physically access maintenance locations of various equipment.
This could include elevated platforms, tight spaces, and near or on equipment. This position also requires the physical ability to finger and grasp materials, to speak effectively, and to listen with intent.
