Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Software - BM/SRM (26-080) to join our talented and diverse team. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2
BMC) program is a crucial part of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational platform that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense actions, oversee the battle, and control networked sensors and weapon systems in real time to meet global and regional mission objectives.

BMC underpins layered missile defenses that provide an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight stages. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and coordinating autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations worldwide and regionally to enhance performance. C2
BMC is vital for all ground and flight tests that assess and showcase current and future missile defense capabilities. This position is for a Software Engineer on the C2
BMC program. The candidate will be responsible for Java-based software development for the Battle Management Sensor Resource Management (BM/SRM) team, one of the Regional Applications teams in Huntsville, AL. Under minimal direction, provides specialized expertise across multiple systems and software disciplines, as well as general knowledge of related disciplines, applications, implications, and customer areas.
Essential Functions:
* Responsible for in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
* Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products
* Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications
* Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
* Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the overall efficiency of the operating system
* Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operational automation
* Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases
* Leadership roles on small, software-focused teams may be required
* Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
* A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
* Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
* Applicants must have a current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, CND, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their DoD 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period
* Software engineering and software development with strong Java/J2EE experience
* Experience and knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management
* Experience developing enterprise applications
