We are seeking a PLS‑CADD Technician with 2–5 years of experience in our Huntsville, AL office. The candidate will be directly responsible for classification, QA/QC, and integration of LiDAR and survey data related to overhead electric and telecommunications infrastructure, with PLS‑CADD serving as the primary platform for utility standards compliance, vegetation risk assessment, and reporting.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Classify and feature‑code LiDAR point cloud data for overhead electric and telecommunications infrastructure, including conductors, structures, vegetation, ground, crossings, and Right‑of‑Way features.
  • Integrate LiDAR‑derived terrain models, survey points, and orthophotography into PLS‑CADD for utility corridor modeling and data validation.
  • Apply and verify utility standards (L1, L2, and L3) in accordance with NESC, NERC, and client‑specific vegetation and clearance requirements.
  • Generate vegetation and clearance‑related reports and datasets from PLS‑CADD, including outputs supporting danger tree identification, strike risk evaluation, and vegetation encroachment assessment (e.g., Danger Tree Locator‑type reporting).
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of classified point clouds, vegetation coding, and PLS‑CADD models to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with survey and utility specifications.
  • Produce deliverables supporting engineering, asset management, and vegetation management teams, including PLS‑CADD files, clearance reports, and supporting geospatial datasets.
  • Research project requirements, survey specifications, and client vegetation management standards to support accurate data collection and reporting workflows.
  • Participate in client, project, and coordination meetings.
  • Adhere to safety and information security policies.
  • Work well independently and as a team member.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience supporting utility survey, LiDAR processing, vegetation management, or aerial mapping projects.
  • Experience working with major utility standards, including L1, L2, and L3 classification and vegetation requirements.
  • Experience with LiDAR point cloud classification (LAS) and vegetation feature extraction.
  • Working knowledge of PLS‑CADD for utility data integration, clearance evaluation, vegetation analysis, and as‑built validation (design experience not required).
  • Must have the desire to learn new software, hardware and methodologies while assisting the Geospatial department to operate at maximum efficiency.
  • Must work well with others, be team oriented, helpful and a good problem solver.
