Description Summary

RSi is seeking a Safety Specialist I to support our NASA customer under the METTS III Contract. This position will have responsibilities supporting safety programs, conducting workplace inspections, and assisting with the delivery of safety and equipment-related training to ensure regulatory compliance and safe operations.

Summary of duties
  • Examine plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to verify that appropriate safety precautions and training considerations are included.
  • Tour work areas to inspect fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify potential hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Determine requirements for safety clothing and devices, and design, build, install, or coordinate installation of safety devices on machinery.
  • Conduct, support, and deliver safety and first aid training, including hands-on and classroom instruction, to educate workers on safety policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Assist with development and delivery of equipment- and task-specific safety training, such as material handling, lifting, and shop operations.
  • Investigate industrial accidents and near-misses, support root cause analysis, and prepare accident reports to reduce recurrence.
Required

Minimum Education /Experience/Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution or more than 2 or more years’ directly related experience.

Preferred Experience /Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/IT Skills/Certifications
  • BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health
  • Experience or coursework in safety, environmental health, or occupational safety within an industrial, engineering, or government environment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general workplace safety practices
  • Ability to deliver or assist with safety training and communicate safety expectations effectively to diverse audiences
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reports, training materials, and safety briefings
  • Ability to conduct safety inspections, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital documentation or training tools
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and management in operational settings
  • Train-the-Trainer certifications (e.g., Forklift, Aerial Lift, Overhead Crane, Rigging)
Work Environment

Combination of office, industrial, and field environments, including laboratories, manufacturing or test areas, and operational facilities.

Physical Environment/Requirements

This role requires regular walking, standing, and touring of work areas to inspect machinery, equipment, and facilities, as well as occasional exposure to industrial hazards, machinery noise, and environmental conditions typical of engineering and test operations with or without reasonable accommodation.

Other

Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issues credentials and IT access/applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
