What We're Doing

Become a part of something IMPACT‑ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks. The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

As a member of an Agile Scrum team performing Algorithm development and Analysis for the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Fire Control (GFC) product, you will develop new algorithms, improve existing algorithms, and assess their effectiveness and performance in the context of the GFC software (currently approximately 1.5 million lines of code) that controls the missile defense system protecting the United States from intercontinental ballistic missile attack.

The Systems Engineer will work in a collaborative environment to understand, implement, and assess new capabilities and algorithms—mathematics and physics based complex solutions critical to the performance of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) mission.

• U.S. Citizenship with an Active Secret Clearance (able to acquire and maintain TS‑level clearance)
• 3 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline
• Demonstrated experience in data analysis, performance analysis, and physics/Mathematics‑based algorithm development
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical personnel
• High proficiency in technical problem solving
• Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering tools used in prototyping complex algorithms
• Proven track record of successfully integrating problem solutions into a larger system
• Extensive background in at least one of the following:
  Ballistic Missile Defense, midcourse missile defense, battle management, threat processing, weapon target assignment, target object map population
• Capable of performing assigned tasks with very little or no direction
• Well‑developed skills in critical thinking and paying attention to detail
• Extensive background in mathematics and physics
• Must be able to support an in‑person / closed‑area work environment

• Current/Active Top Secret Clearance
• Extensive background in Ballistic Missile Defense, midcourse missile defense, battle management, threat state processing, weapon target assignment
• Experience developing analysis tools in MATLAB and Python
• High comfort level with the ADA programming language
• Experience with the MDA GMD program
• Experience with algorithm development

Security clearance level:
Secret. This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.
