Position Overview

International’s Huntsville Powertrain Plant is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support and strengthen how environmental requirements are executed in daily operations. This role is not just about permits and reporting—you will help ensure environmental compliance is clearly understood, consistently applied, and built into how work is done on the floor.

You will play a key role in driving compliance and sustainability improvements that protect our environment and our customers, ensuring our processes support both regulatory expectations and the long‑term quality and reliability of our products. You’ll work closely with Supervisors, Team Leaders, and support teams to turn environmental requirements into standard work, reinforce expectations, and help the plant stay audit‑ready at all times.

This role plays a critical part in managing our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and driving sustainability improvements across the plant, with a strong focus on energy, water, and waste. You will ensure our environmental systems are not only compliant, but actively improving how we operate and reducing overall impact.

Schedule:

Monday through Thursday 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Responsibilities
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) – daily execution, maintenance, and continuous improvement
  • Compliance and sustainability performance across air, water, and waste

  • Support internal and external ISO 14001 audits, including preparation, execution, and corrective actions
  • Ensure environmental metrics are tracked, understood, and used to drive improvement, not just reported
  • Support compliance execution on the floor – verify processes are being followed in real time
  • Drive improvements that strengthen both compliance and sustainability performance
  • Translate environmental requirements into clear, practical expectations for operations teams
  • Assist with environmental audits and inspections – preparation, execution, and follow‑up
  • Monitor environmental conditions and exposures to ensure controls are effective
  • Identify gaps and elevate early to prevent larger compliance risks
  • Maintain and support permits (air, water, waste) and associated requirements
  • Support hazardous waste management including storage, labeling, and shipment
  • Help develop and deliver training that builds understanding and reinforces correct behaviors
  • Partner with Supervisors and Team Leaders to reinforce expectations and improve consistency
  • Serve as a resource for environmental compliance questions and support interpretation of requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records to support compliance and audit readiness
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of environmental health and safety experience
