Iron Mountain Solutions is seeking a highly qualified Designer / Drafter III supporting an upcoming Long Range Standoff Weapon (LRSO) effort in Huntsville, AL. The Designer/Drafter III will provide advanced engineering design and drafting support for the Long Range Stand Off (LRSO) program. This role requires expertise in developing 3D models, detailed drawings, and engineering documentation in support of system development, integration, and sustainment activities.
The selected candidate will collaborate with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure technical accuracy and program compliance. Job duties include revising and maintaining engineering drawings, detail drawings, assembly drawings, parts lists, and controlled technical data supporting LRSOCarriage Equipment inspection, refurbishment, fit verification, maintenance documentation, and release.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Education and General Experience- Bachelor degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field with seven (7) years experience in Design/Drafting;
Associate degree with ten (10) years’ experience in Design/Drafting. - Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace design and drafting.
- Extensive background in 3D CAD modeling and detailed drawing creation.
- Strong working knowledge of Solid Works, including part modeling, assembly creation, drawing generation, and basic configurations.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain drafting accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Knowledge of current DoD drawing standards
- Ability to manage complex projects and work collaboratively across departments
- Ability to identify, develop, and maintain stakeholder requirements
- Create and revise 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in support of LRSO weapon system development.
- Ensure all technical documentation meets program specifications, ASME drafting standards, and configuration management requirements.
- Perform tolerance analyses to validate form, fit, and function of components and assemblies.
- Collaborate with engineers to translate design concepts into manufacturable drawings.
- Review and update engineering documentation throughout the lifecycle of assigned tasks.
- Support manufacturing, testing, and integration activities by providing clear and accurate technical drawings.
- Participate in design reviews and provide recommendations to improve quality, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend new engineering methods, tools, and materials that support continuous improvement.
- Review contract deliverables to verify compliance with requirements, as defined in the contract, DD Form 1423, and the Data Item Description (DID). This includes working with cross‑functional teams to resolve any discrepancies.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
