Trillium Professional is now seeking a Mechanical Designer / Drafter in Huntsville, AL!
Pay rate is $55-65/hr.
Summary- Creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by engineering.
- Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.
- Checks drawing plots versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standards.
- Works with design engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and ECN/ECR documentation.
- May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage by performing the following duties.
- At this level, tasks and assignments tend to be general but may involve complex and/or non-routine assignments and duties are performed under limited supervision.
- Must be highly motivated, team oriented, quality focused and willing to work under schedule pressure.
- Designs major segments of complex subsystems.
- Creates 3‑D models of parts and assemblies using Solid Works 2023 SW to develop a subsystem layout and prepares production drawings based on these models.
- Applies knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to drawings.
- Able to work within concept to and through manufacture environment.
- Able to integrate and package electro/mechanical enclosures.
- Able to perform Form, Fit and Function verification.
- Participates in design reviews.
- Works closely with and communicates to engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure that all aspects of the design are understood.
- Serves as liaison with operations during fabrication of parts to ensure that all design issues are resolved and drawings are updated.
- Performs tolerance analysis on mating parts to insure proper fit.
- Applies knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to designs. MIL-STD, ASME, NAS and DOD standards apply.
- Technically directs work and checks drawings of lower‑level drafters; provides expertise in CAD software for specific problem solving on a project.
- Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.
- May be requested to work with AutoCAD or similar SW tools such as SMAP 3D and Draft Sight in preparation of 2‑D drawings.
- Willing to work overtime.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four‑year college or university, associate’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 plus years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Mathematical Skills
- Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of planar and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Computer Skills
- Solid Works Design software;
Solid Works 2023 is current SW of choice. - MS Excel Spreadsheet software.
- MS Word Word Processing software.
- Solid Works Design software;
- Other Technical Skills
- Advanced skills in 3‑D solid Modeling/drafting using Solid Works software.
- Advanced skills in 2‑D drafting using AutoCAD, SMAP 3D or Draft Sight software.
- Advanced knowledge of conventional engineering drawing practices per ASME Y14 standards.
- Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
- Intermediate knowledge of machining operations and shop practices.
- Familiar with and working knowledge of PDM file manager SW.
- Basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen.
- Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)
- Certified Solid Works Associate is a strong plus; required (in place or obtained within 6 months).
- Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
- Active Government Security Clearance is not required.
- US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
- Ability to travel domestically/internationally approximately.
