Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Electrical Engineer - Level 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

As a Principle Electrical Engineer you will support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment. Your core tasks will entail developing and maintaining Electrical drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their interfaces with facilities. Under the direction of your program leadership, responsibilities include performing analyses IAW industry and military standards, developing rack/system level drawings, maintaining drawings PLM system, evaluating hardware design efforts, scheduling, planning required tasks, leading small teams, and writing reports to support milestone reviews.

Accountability and active participation in team meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.

Essential Functions:

  • Under the direction of your program leadership, responsibilities include performing analyses IAW industry and military standards.
  • Develop design drawings, maintaining drawings, evaluating hardware design efforts, scheduling, and planning required tasks.
  • Leading small teams and writing reports to support milestone reviews.
  • Accountability and active participation in team meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.
  • Generate engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's STEM Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a STEM PhD.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
  • Must be able to support an in-office / closed-area work environment full-time.
  • Ability to communicate data in a clear and concise manner.
  • 5 years of recent professional experience using a CAD Package such as Visio, AutoCAD, Solid Works, CREO, Siemens Capital Suites (Logic/Harness), or NX to develop technical drawings
  • Experience in two or more of the following areas: electrical/power system design, network communication system design, cable harness fabrication design, and perform electrical load analysis.
  • Experience reviewing engineering specifications, electrical schematics and/or drawings with the ability to translate customer driven requirements into specifications.
  • Understanding and application of industry and company electrical engineering technical standards and procedures; demonstrated electrical component design experience and impact assessment / trade studies development.
  • Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP.
  • Experience evaluating commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and military parts for compliance to meet requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Team, and Power Point
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Recent experience leading a small project, including task and schedule planning, to meet major project milestone objectives
  • Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.
