Mechanical Designer

Trillium Professional is now seeking a Mechanical Designer / Drafter in Huntsville, AL! Pay rate is $55-65/hr.
Summary:
Creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by engineering. Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Checks drawing plots versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standards. Works with design engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and ECN/ECR documentation. May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage by performing the following duties.
At this level, tasks and assignments tend to be general but may involve complex and/or non-routine assignments and duties are performed under limited supervision. Must be highly motivated, team oriented, quality focused and willing to work under schedule pressure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Designs major segments of complex subsystems.
- Creates 3-D models of parts and assemblies using Solid Works 2023 SW to develop a subsystem layout. Prepares production drawings based on these models.
- Applies knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to drawings.
- Able to work within concept to and through manufacture environment
- Able to integrate and package electro/mechanical enclosures
- Able to perform Form, Fit and Function verification - Participates in design reviews.
- Works closely with and communicate to engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure that all aspects of the design are understood.
- Serves as liaison with operations during fabrication of parts to ensure that all design issues are resolved and drawings are updated.
- Performs tolerance analysis on mating parts to insure proper fit.
- Applies knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to designs. MIL-STD, ASME, NAS and DOD standards apply.
- Technically directs work and checks drawings of lower-level drafters. Provides expertise in CAD software for specific problem solving on a project
- Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals/deadlines.
- May be requested to work with AutoCAD or similar SW tools such as SMAP 3D and Draft Sight in preparation of 2D drawings.
- Willing to work overtime
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university, associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 plus years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of:
- Solid Works Design software;
Solid Works 2023 is current SW of choice - MS Excel Spreadsheet software
- MS Word Word Processing software
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Certified Solid Works Associate is a strong plus. Required (in place or obtained within 6 months).

Qualifications:
- Advanced skills in 3D solid Modeling/drafting using Solid Works software
- Advanced skills in 2D drafting using AutoCAD, SMAP 3D or Draft Sight software
- Advanced knowledge of conventional engineering drawing practices per ASME Y14 standards.
- Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
- Intermediate knowledge of machining operations and shop practices
- Familiar with and working knowledge of PDM file manager SW.
Other Essential Duties:
Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
