This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a small, passionate team of experts, you will be responsible for instrumentation and sensors for rocket engine systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of Blue Origin's ability to develop, test and fly space vehicles and rocket engines through hands-on testing and real time engineering.

In this role you will provide instrumentation solutions for rocket engines. You will deliver qualified instrumentation solutions that meet system engineering and quality system requirements. You will create sensor and instrumentation engineering drawings, specifications and procedures. You will work closely with sensor vendors to develop sensors that can perform to requirements in a very challenging environment on rocket engines. You will perform sensor acceptance testing in electronics lab and environmental test lab environments as well as oversee test campaigns  need to be able to troubleshoot and debug sensor/instrumentation anomalies in an avionics and engine component development environment.

You must be able to identify root cause failure modes using fault tree and fishbone methodologies, and formally document findings. You should be able to document sensor requirements and specifications for new products.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or Physics with electrical experience. Electrical Engineer with extensive mechanical experience considered
  • 2+ years' experience designing, testing, calibrating, of sensors & instrumentation
  • Knowledge of the theory of operation of sensors for various measurement applications (pressure, temperature, displacement, force, acceleration, etc.)
  • Experience developing acceptance and qualification test plans utilizing pressure controllers, environmental chambers, shock/vibration tables, etc.
  • Experience with data anomaly review, sensor system troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in a lab or test environment
  • Execution of component qualification campaigns
  • Excellent presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience applying sensors and instrumentation to avionics systems
  • Experience developing basic software for the automation of equipment (Lab View, C++, Java, Python, etc.)
