Senior System Safety Engineer – Huntsville, AL or Remote

APT Research is hiring a Senior System Safety Engineer in Huntsville, AL or remote to support our MDA MAPSS Safety contract.

• Develop and oversee Test and Targets safety programs throughout the system life cycle, including system safety, range safety, operational safety, explosives safety, and insensitive munitions compliance.
• Serve as the primary safety interface among Test and Targets Program Offices, contractors, Quality & Safety, Defense Contract Management Agency Safety, Range Safety organizations, the Defense Explosives Safety Board, explosives hazard classification authorities, and host installation safety organizations.
• Conduct safety assessments and technical evaluations in support of Program Change Board reviews to identify hazards, assess impacts, and ensure proposed changes comply with safety requirements.
• Perform system safety risk assessments to identify hazards, evaluate and verify mitigation effectiveness, reduce risks to acceptable levels, and prepare documentation supporting formal acceptance of residual risk in accordance with DoD, MDA, and MIL‑STD‑882 requirements.
• Develop, implement, and maintain system safety requirements, policies, and guidance to minimize risks to personnel, property, mission objectives, and the environment throughout the program life cycle.
• Lead the reporting, investigation, tracking, and resolution of safety incidents and mishaps, ensuring root cause analyses are completed, corrective actions implemented, and lessons learned incorporated to prevent recurrence and improve overall program safety performance.

• Bachelor’s in Engineering with 10+ years of experience in System Safety Engineering OR a Bachelor of Science degree with 15 years of experience in System/Software Safety.

• SECRET level clearance required.

• Office environment.

Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.).

• Requires sitting for extended periods at a workstation or desk.
• Ability to lift >15 lbs.
