Raytheon Power Electronics and Controls Engineer

The foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

The Effector Guidance Electronics (EGE) department is responsible for all aspects of these subsystems design, test and production. Join our Power Electronics & Controls (PE&C) team with the skills and passion to engineer complex power systems, analog design, linear control systems and/or motor control systems. A successful candidate is one who can participate in a multi-disciplined team, properly apply engineering tools & processes and effectively communicate with others.

The Power Electronics and Controls section is responsible for power design to include power conversion, DC/DC converters, AC/DC converters, gimbal controls, solenoid controls, HV converters, small signal analog circuits, initiator circuits, sensing and monitoring circuits, flight termination, and support for telemetry systems. A candidate with interests, studies, research or experiences which are technically broad will be a possible fit in our electrical subsystems group.

These could include one or more of the following experiences: hands on laboratory work with hardware and software, subsystem integration and testing, a focus on system interactions and industrial engineering, system / subsystem modeling and analysis, investigating defects and developing root cause and corrective actions.

All Candidates will be expected to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity, working under general supervision. The position requires frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, concepts, and techniques. Successful candidates should expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment where an individual with talent and initiative can stand out and thrive.

What You Will Do:
  • Design, analyze (including thermal considerations), simulate, and test power conversion circuitry potentially utilizing any standard non-isolated power conversion topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost) including modules and discrete designs
  • Guide Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through PWB layout of power circuitry and technical drawing creation
  • Perform design work within the bounds of a given schedule
  • Present reviews of technical data to program leadership and technical staff
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Experience in low-level electronics components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes and/or transistors, etc and the ability to design with them
  • Experience with any of the following non-isolated converter topologies: buck, boost, buck-boost.
  • Experience with design, analysis, and test with analog electronic design and analysis, including FET, BJT, and/or Op-amp circuits
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Lab experience specific to power electronics and/or controls electronics
  • Demonstrated use of software tools for electrical circuit simulation and/or printed circuit board layout
  • Understanding of fundamental power conversion concepts, components, and techniques
  • Basic understanding of commonly used power converter and/or motor drive control schemes
  • Familiarity with circuit simulators such as SIMPLIS, Saber and/or analysis tool Mathcad.
What We Offer:
  • Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. At RTX we value:
Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation.
  • Relocation Eligibility
