Position

Summary

The Senior Systems / Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert supporting the evaluation, definition, and development of advanced HVAC and thermal management solutions for U.S. Government systems. The position is focused on assessing existing cooling infrastructure, defining technical requirements, and developing well‑reasoned modernization approaches suitable for demanding operational environments. The engineer will support Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) activities to ensure requirements traceability, architectural consistency, and technical readiness for future design and prototype efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership in the definition, analysis, and integration of complex mechanical or HVAC systems, including requirements development, system architecture, and subsystem interfaces.
  • Assess existing cooling infrastructure and develop modernization approaches for demanding operational environments.
  • Perform systems engineering, mechanical and HVAC design, thermal analysis, engineering trade studies, and subsystem integration.
  • Support early‑phase system assessments, trade studies, and technical evaluations to support modernization planning or future system development.
  • Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams, coordinating with electrical, structural, controls, and manufacturing disciplines.
  • Apply MBSE or structured systems engineering methods to support requirements development and design alignment.
  • Ensure performance analysis, environmental considerations, and system integration of HVAC and thermal management architectures.
  • Communicate technical concepts, findings, and recommendations clearly, both written and verbal, to internal teams and government stakeholders.
  • Work independently and with minimal supervision while remaining aligned with technical objectives and customer needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field plus 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Government programs involving mechanical, thermal, or environmental control systems (strong preference).
  • Active Secret Clearance required.
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally (approximately 10%).
  • Language skills: read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Writing skills: produce reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Presentation skills: effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical skills: probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics for design, analysis, and problem solving.
  • Reasoning ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Computer skills: use software for presenting analytical results, including charts, graphs, and presentations in Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
  • Knowledge of design, analysis, and ERP software.
