Position OverviewWe are seeking a professional Power Design Electrical Engineer within the System Power, Analog and Controls Department to design, analyze, simulate, and test power conversion circuitry. The role requires U.S. citizenship and a DoD Secret Clearance.
LocationHuntsville, Alabama, U.S. (Onsite) – relocation assistance available.
Responsibilities- Design, analyze (include thermal considerations), simulate, and test power conversion circuitry, utilizing non‑isolated topologies (buck, boost, buck‑boost) and modules/discrete designs.
- Guide ECAD personnel through PWB layout of power circuitry and create technical drawings.
- Perform design work within given schedule and present technical data reviews to program leadership and technical staff.
- Support circuit card assembly‑level and system‑level power architecture trades, including power converter specification development.
- Serve as liaison between program and functional management.
- Degree in STEM field and minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Professional experience with linear converters (e.g., buck, boost, buck‑boost) and analog circuit design (FET, BJT, Op‑amp).
- Experience with simulation tools (e.g., SIMPLIS, Saber, Mathcad) and PCB layout tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Hyperlynx).
- Knowledge of power conversion concepts, components, and techniques.
- Ability to document designs and verify circuit performance.
- Laboratory experience with power electronics and/or controls electronics.
- Experience with isolated converter topologies (flyback, half‑bridge, full‑bridge, push‑pull) and stability analysis.
- Experience with transformer and inductor design considerations.
- Experience with EMI concerns, voltages >400V and power >10kW.
- Experience with digital power control, military specifications, and program management tools such as Earned Value.
- Proposal development experience.
- Ability to design to meet concerns of adjacent disciplines (thermal, structural, mechanical, reliability, quality).
- Strong communication, leadership, and time‑management skills.
Salary range: $68,900 - $131,100 USD. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance program, parental leave, paid time off, holidays, and other benefits dependent on the specific business unit. Eligible for annual incentive compensation programs if applicable.
