Principal FPGA Engineer

Job Overview

Principal FPGA Engineer – Huntsville, Alabama. 100% onsite in a 24/7 defense mission environment. U.S. citizenship required for a DoD Secret clearance. Requires active existing clearance after day one.

• Design, implement and deliver production quality FPGA releases from proof of concept to production.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, software engineers and program management to ensure product success.
• Lead FPGA-based system architecture and design, including parts and interfaces selection.
• Write reliable, maintainable, reviewable and reusable VHDL code.
• Verify designs using self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests; track functional and code coverage.
• Provide design support through requirements definition to integration and test.
• Create full documentation, including requirements, verification plans, user’s guides, and configuration management plans.
• Translate system-level requirements into FPGA specifications.
• Participate in internal and external technical reviews.
• Independently drive projects to meet program schedules and budgets.
• Potentially lead large integrated or cross-product teams on moderate to large multi-year programs.

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 8 years’ experience, with at least 7 of the following:
• Digital design and HDL coding for configurable logic devices.
• Delivering FPGA solutions to system level applications.
• Experience with Altera, Lattice, Microchip, or AMD FPGA devices and associated tools.
• Integration and debugging of electronics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, etc.
• FPGA timing constraints and timing closure.
• Digital simulation (Questa, Riviera, Pro, or similar).
• Industry standard interfaces (AXI, PCIe, SPI, I2C, etc.).
• Python or C programming.
• Knowledge of embedded systems design and processors (Microblaze, Nios, ARM).
• Experience using Git and Git Hub.
• Understanding of encryption/decryption standards (AES, RSA, ECC, etc.).
• Embedded processor and SoC development for FPGAs.
• Hardware platform verification.
• Stakeholders cross-discipline knowledge.

• Radar processing techniques.
• Image processing for visual and infrared sensors.
• Gigabit serial interfaces and multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs).
• Linux-based FPGA development environment.
• Embedded systems design with ARM processors.
• Experience in leadership roles (team lead, technical lead, project lead).
• Proposal experience (budgeting, scheduling).

107,500 USD – 204,500 USD.
