Position: Combustion, Responsible Engineer III

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, focusing on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Our family of engines powers the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of the engineering team, you will contribute to combustion device development and test facility systems that are critical to our mission. You will apply expertise in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and structural analysis to solve complex engineering challenges. We are looking for someone who demonstrates technical excellence, leadership skills, and a commitment to quality while advancing our mission.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop combustion devices (injectors, chambers, igniters, and related components)
  • Lead design of high‑temperature gas systems, including process architecture and layout for components testing and test facilities
  • Manage a combustion device’s complete product lifecycle from initial requirements through qualification
  • Develop and document test requirements and procedures
  • Support test operations, including data collection, analysis, and hardware performance assessment
  • Design and develop mechanical test fixtures and structural supports
  • Conduct process hazard analysis activities for fluid systems (HAZOP)
  • Coordinate with suppliers, managing cost, schedule, and technical design requirements
  • Provide remote and on‑site support during manufacturing, fabrication, installation, and start‑up of new facilities or hardware upgrades
  • Coordinate with internal customers to refine project scope and requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in relevant engineering
  • Experience in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics
  • Experience with CAD software and drawing creation
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT)
  • Experience with data analysis and data processing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline
  • Strong knowledge of combustion device design process and hardware fabrication techniques
  • Strong technical fundamentals in fluids, heat transfer, and combustion analysis
  • Proven application of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to machining drawings
  • Familiarity with ASME, API, AISC, and ACI codes
  • Experience operating test facilities
  • Experience with hardware development and test systems
Compensation

Compensation Range for WA applicants is $ – $. Other site ranges may differ.
