Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team! This position supports spacecraft, missile, hypersonic, or other advanced aerospace platforms operating in extreme and highly dynamic environments. If you're looking for ownership, influence, and the opportunity to solve complex, high-consequence engineering challenges - this role is built for you. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will oversee the end-to-end mechanical design of a complex missile system under development.
This will include management of mechanical interfaces, resolution of mechanical integration issues through coordination between suppliers and internal design teams through all phases of the lifecycle. Day to day activities will include technical leadership of a multi site team, planning future activities, briefing leadership on progress and challenges, and driving integrated technical solutions to closure. In this role, you will:
• Participate in issue resolution and develop solutions to technical problems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical content and timely closure.
• Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses necessary to support product build and testing activities.
• Generate and release drawings using CAD software.
• Be a member of multiple integrated product teams, reciprocally interacting with other engineers, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and customers.
• Represent the organization in design reviews, readiness reviews, and review boards.
• Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to supervise the build and test of the hardware in the production facility located next door to the engineering building.
Basic Qualifications:
• Experience with mechanical design and/or manufacturing, with the ability to interpret and/or apply detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and/or bill of materials.
• Understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including structural analysis, material properties, stress/strain evaluation, and/or engineering calculation methods.
• Experience with CAD platforms (e.g., Creo, I DEAS, Solid Works, Catia)
• Familiarity with model based product definition (MBD) practices to create, validate, and/or manage digital product data.
• US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance Desired
Skills:
- Creo and CAD data management (EPDM) experience
- Knowledge of composite structure design and fabrication
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and documentation
- Experience with test methods, planning and execution
- Experience working with other LM operating units
- Experience working with suppliers
- Functions well in a creative, high-tempo, collaborative, cross-functional, dynamic, and multi-disciplinary environment
- Familiarity with LM Space processes, procedures, and tools (including EPDM/Windchill) - Excellent communication skills
