Specialist, Quality Engineer
The Missile Solutions Segment of L3
Harris is seeking a Specialist, Quality Engineer to work at either our existing state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) in Toney, AL, and/or our new, AMF in Huntsville, AL, which will be our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of composite rocket motor hardware.
The Specialist, Quality Engineer works under moderate supervision to set objectives for own job area. Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures Identifies and addresses changes within own job area. Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results.
Essential Functions:
- Apply modern quality principles and methods, including Lean and Six Sigma, to aerospace manufacturing operations.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements to ensure compliance and flow down of applicable requirements.
- Lead or interface with the Material Review Board (MRB) for nonconforming material disposition, driving timely completion of actions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance processes for high product and service standards, regularly assessing the health those functional processes.
- Investigate production issues, conduct root cause analysis, take corrective actions, and verify effectiveness through effective application of a Corrective Action Board (CAB) process.
- Analyze manufacturing quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Lead data-driven continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and manufacturing process efficiency.
- Interface with Supplier Quality Engineering to resolve supplier-related issues.
- Work with Integrated Product Teams (IPT) to identify and mitigate program risks through the program's Risk and Opportunity Management Board process.
- Present quality metrics to customers, providing assessment and actions to drive improvement.
- Assess the need for First Article Inspections (FAIs) based on trigger events defined in AS9102 and/or contractual flowdown, and facilitate their completion.
- Travel: 10% business travel to L3
Harris and customer sites. - Ability to obtain US Security Clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior Quality experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior Quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior Quality experience.
Preferred Additional
Skills:
- Experience collaborating within a Microsoft 365 environment, with proficiency in the included applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Project Management experience.
- Supplier/Customer Support experience.
- Regulatory & Auditing (AS9100) in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
- Statistical Analysis experience.
- Risk Management experience.
