Position DescriptionThe Valves, Actuators, and Ducts division of the Propulsion Engineering department is searching for a Mechanical Technician to support the Component Development Area (CDA). The CDA is a small world‑class fabrication shop and testing laboratory supporting development and testing of space flight components and systems.
The selected candidate must have practical experience and demonstrate knowledge in a wide range of technical and engineering methods that support tests at the CDA. Candidate will fabricate tubing, fixtures, pneumatic panels, hydraulic assemblies, and various mechanical systems; candidate will operate and maintain complex mechanical systems utilized in testing of space flight components.
Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Work directly with engineering personnel and/or senior technicians on the design, fabrication, installation, and operation of components and systems
- Usage and safe operation of mills, tube flaring equipment, saws, shear presses, grinders, and pneumatics
- Welding using various methodologies to assemble frames, test fixtures, and support assemblies for component testing
- Utilize detailed test procedures for safe operation of hydraulic, pneumatic, cryogenic, and high‑pressure gas systems
- Interpret drawings, plans, and specifications for buildup and testing of flight‑type hardware and test components
- Utilize various tools and methods to perform work and maintenance on a variety of mechanical, fluid, and electrical components
- Fabrication, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic, cryogenic, pneumatic, and high‑pressure gas systems
- Operate forklift, overhead crane, and man‑lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required
- Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work duties, to include safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, gloves, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses, etc.
- Notify Supervisor and Management of any hazards or unsafe conditions in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions
- General shop housekeeping including cleanup and organization of parts
