Senior Electrical Engineer – Hardware Design
Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Senior Electrical Engineer – Hardware Design to join our team and create unique solutions for complex problems. The role involves executing all phases of the product life cycle, from concept development and detailed design to manufacturing, qualification testing, and post‑delivery support. You will architect, implement, and test printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) including power supply, mixed‑signal, FPGA, and microcontroller designs.
Additional skills in signal integrity analysis, power distribution network design, high‑speed digital (10 GigE+) design, RF design, or basic VHDL are a plus.
In a product‑focused environment, you will partner with engineers, project managers, technicians, and customers to develop solutions that meet diverse requirements. You will support technical issue resolution during manufacturing and testing, troubleshoot board‑level problems, conduct root‑cause analysis, and identify corrective actions.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related ABET‑accredited field.
- 8+ years of experience in electronics design and test from architecture through implementation.
- Advanced knowledge of digital, analog, and mixed‑signal electronics, components, and interface/communication standards.
- Expertise in digital PCB design and troubleshooting of embedded processor, microcontroller, or FPGA‑based designs.
- Proven experience designing, testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing complex multi‑layer electronic circuit card assemblies.
- Hands‑on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.
- Strong technical problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills.
- Ability to decompose system‑level requirements to lower design levels.
- Skill interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.
- Effective communication within a team environment.
- Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville–North Alabama, AL area.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related ABET‑accredited field.
- Experience with high‑speed serial communication standards and memory interfaces (e.g., GigE, 10 GigE, Aurora, DDR2/3/4, JESD
204B, PCIe, SATA). - Proficiency with high‑speed design analysis tools such as Hyper Lynx.
- Experience with rigid‑flex, microvia, blind via, and buried via PCBs.
- Simpted‑mode power supply (SMPS) design.
- Use of Siemens (formerly Mentor Graphics) or Altium electrical engineering development tools.
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and possess, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a Final Secret Clearance or a Secret Clearance.
