Mechanisms and Separation Dynamics Analyst | Lockheed Martin

Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more — we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future. At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve.

We're creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security® vision. We're erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We're advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we're reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity. Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that's built for you.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct structural dynamics analyses that shape the performance and survivability of missile and spacecraft flight hardware, from early concept through flight.
  • Develop, refine, and own high-fidelity dynamic models using both in-house and industry-standard tools to simulate mechanical loads, deployment mechanisms, and complex separation events.
  • Conduct both component and system level analyses, to generate actionable design criteria and validated engineering solutions.
  • Partner across a multidisciplinary engineering team to perform design trades, guide architecture decisions, and ensure requirements and objectives are met throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Define and support static and dynamic test requirements, oversee test execution, and lead data reduction and correlation efforts to ensure alignment between analysis and test.
  • Prepare and present technical findings with clarity and confidence to internal teams, customers, and program leadership at key design reviews and technical forums.
  • Deliver high-quality analysis products and documentation.

Desired skills:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Aerospace, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of rigid body kinematics and/or dynamics simulation experience
  • Proficiency performing kinematic/dynamic analysis of mechanisms, test support equipment, and separation systems
  • Proficiency building and correlating multi-body dynamics models with test data for model validation
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal, self-motivated, and able and willing to support multiple projects
