Materials and Processes Engineer I - Early Career (2026 Starts)
Compensation Range for WA applicants: $81,313.00 - $

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborating as part of a hardworking team to address material challenges in various spaceflight systems.
- Reviewing production drawings for large, complex assemblies to ensure optimal material selection and process implementation.
- Developing, documenting, and optimizing manufacturing processes for both metallic and non‑metallic hardware.
- Selecting materials and defining design requirements to meet engineering, structural, and program goals.
- Working collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, including quality, design, structures, thermal, integration, and manufacturing, to optimize overall system design and performance.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree or higher in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, polymer engineering, welding engineering, geology/geosciences and mining engineering, or related field.
- Earned degree within the last year and able to start by Fall 2026.
- Broad experience in metallic materials such as super alloys, aluminums/ titaniums and their processing (forging, casting, forming, brazing, welding, etc.), non‑metallic (o‑rings, seals, lubricants), material characterization and failure modes (corrosion, failure investigation, thermal degradation, etc.), breaking down complex problems into traceable tasks and concisely communicating project status.
- Relevant internship/co‑op and/or hands‑on experience that demonstrates development of both technical skills and leadership qualities.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen culture of inclusion.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.
- Flexible and adaptable mindset.
- Self‑driven with the ability to seek out requirements with minimal direction.
Desired:
- MS in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, polymer engineering, welding engineering, geology/geosciences and mining engineering, or related technical subject area.
- Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties (fatigue, fracture, creep, stress rupture) of metallic and soft materials.
- Familiarity and interest in at least one of the following: friction stir welding and spin forming; mining and geophysical exploration; metallurgy and processes such as casting and forging; metallic additive manufacturing (laser power bed) and its application to production hardware.
