Astriom is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician IV to support the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support (METTS) III contract at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) located on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

This position is in support of the METTS III contract at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) on the Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville Alabama. The Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support (METTS) III services provides a wide range of support to our customer. These services cover a wide range of engineering technicians and trade skills, and professional and management oversight of technical staff contract.

Required Qualifications /

Skills:
  • Experience in reading blueprints and understanding parts lists.
  • Experience assisting in determining test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures
  • Experience preparing design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment.
  • Experience in machine shop/manufacturing environment
Desired Qualifications /

Skills:
  • Experience in machine shop/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience providing semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work Environment (office, lab, test stand etc.):
    Laboratory, test environments, test stands, possible confined spaces. Machine/Manufacturing/Fabrication environment Noisy/loud areas
  • Physical Requirements (ability to lift X amount of weight, sit or stand for long periods of time etc.):
    Must be able to bend, stoop or lift occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation. All positions supporting the METTS III contract are contingent upon successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. The need for these screenings is determined based on the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.

Responsibilities:
  • Developing or reviewing designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data, applying conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists. (Examples of designs include: detailed circuit diagrams; hardware fittings or test equipment involving a variety of mechanisms; conventional piping systems; and building site layouts).
  • Conducting tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures, preparing and operating equipment, recording data, measuring and recording problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level, and analyzes data and prepares test reports.
  • Applying methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects, constructing experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducts tests or experiments and redesigns as necessary and recording and evaluating data and reports findings.
  • Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
  • Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
  • Additionally, the position operates in unique, "one of a kind," and/or hazardous research and test facilities, test stands, laboratories, chambers, equipment, and are required to have highly specialized skills that in many cases can only be obtained through specialized training, "on the job" work experience, and certification(s).
