Entry Level Mechanical Engineer
Leidos' Defense Systems is seeking a talented Entry Level Mechanical Engineer for its Hypersonics line of business. The selected candidate will support the Common Hypersonic Glide Body program (CHGB). Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the creation and maintenance of Technical Data Package (TDP) artifacts, including engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and specifications.
- Assist in applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Collaborate within integrated product teams (IPTs) to support drawing updates and production efforts.
- Support production activities by assisting with troubleshooting mechanical issues and implementing corrective actions under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Participate in engineering design reviews, peer reviews, and other technical meetings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, manufacturability, and engineering processes.
- Assist in implementing engineering solutions under the guidance of the Responsible Engineer.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
- Must be a resident or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL to work on-site.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software such as Creo, CATIA, AutoCAD, or Solid Works.
- Strong attention-to-detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Willingness to learn new engineering tools, processes, and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship, co-op, undergraduate research, or academic project experience in mechanical design or manufacturing.
- Experience creating engineering models and drawings using PTC Creo.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, bills of materials, and configuration management principles.
- Familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) concepts.
- Exposure to product lifecycle management (PLM) systems such as Windchill.
- Exposure to manufacturing, assembly, or test environments.
- Exposure to AS9100 or other quality management systems.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Interest in supporting defense, aerospace, or advanced technology programs.
