Components Engineer

Mercury Systems has a great opportunity for an electrical engineer who specializes in Component Engineering to make an impact, and the ability help mature our component process and framework right away. We are seeking a well experienced Components Engineer, Parts Engineer or Reliability Engineer to support our warfare products and related technologies. If selected, you will be part of the Component Engineering Team supporting a range of programs spanning terrestrial and space solutions.

Our products include aerospace systems that protect warfighters, noncombatants, and critical infrastructure. The work we do is making a difference in the world – today. This is a very hands-on, collaborative company and we value your input.

This position is hybrid, and can be worked out of one of the following Mercury Systems Locations:

  • Huntsville, AL;
    Chantilly, VA;
    Cypress, CA; or Andover, MA

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a lead EEEE parts or materials and processes engineer on multiple space and terrestrial application programs.
  • Lead component reviews, analysis, and assessment against program compliance requirements for space and military programs.
  • Collaborate closely with the customer, other government agencies, and cross-functional teams to resolve supply chain issues, review, improve, and document PMP activities, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Understand program requirements and Statements of Work (SOWs) to determine program component environmental / characteristic application requirements
  • Provide technology insertion and parts selection/standardization guidance while adhering to business, component parametric, application environmental and circuit application constraints
  • Generate and revise component drawings and associated verification data packages
  • Review of electronic component and assembly reliability and construction data, and preparation of such data as to facilitate Part and Material Review Board (MRB) review and adjudication
  • Perform alternate part investigations and generate comparison matrices showing the differences and similarities of the parts
  • Interface with multiple internal stakeholders and external suppliers/manufacturers to develop component risk and verification delineation
  • Facilitate component selection and libraries application through the coordination and generation of the program Bill of Material (BOM) in a collaboration toolset
  • Present component standardization, design library, obsolescence management and termination finish risk results in support of design reviews for a program
  • Developing EEE parts specifications detailing component screening and qualification test plans and executing part qualifications with test houses
  • Create and submit NSPARs for customer review and approval supporting component screening and qualification plans. Presenting non-standard parts and materials to customers, defending the use of non-standard parts and materials. Skillfully present detailed technical information to internal and external customers with confidence.
  • Participate in root cause corrective actions (RCCAs) and corrective action report (CAR/SCAR) activities as needed.
  • Support periodic audits of suppliers' facilities and processes.
  • Mentor more junior engineers and actively contribute to knowledge-sharing culture.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate reports, databases and PMP meeting agendas and minutes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).
  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in related industry (i.e. defense, electronics) or 5 years plus a master's degree in related disciplines.
  • Prior experience as a lead component engineer (or similar engineer) on defense/aerospace/space programs.
  • Knowledge of common military and industry specifications and standards (MIL, ASTM, AEC, ESA, NASA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of electronic fabrication techniques and processes such as SMT, chip and wire, hybrids, etc.
  • Experience with the design and manufacture of electronic circuit card assemblies.
  • Experience with the NSMAR NSPAR process or/and forms.
