Electrical Engineer

Serve as an Electrical Engineer managing engineering projects which are complex and unconventional and require applying the latest electrical engineering technology in designing supporting facilities for missile weapons, major computer systems, etc.

Work includes long-term and special electrical engineering projects and feasibility studies involving the development of plans and function designs for new utilities and facilities, and/or for major modifications to existing utilities and facilities.

Study and analyze project assignments, identifies requirements which are of a novel and unusual nature; makes-preliminary investigations, to determine design feasibility, and alternate methods of accomplishment.

Coordinate with other engineers and other technical support elements of the organization of their assigned phases of projects.

Perform technical review of Architectural Engineering, or other engineering projects' Construction drawings.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.

Position requires the incumbent to travel TDY 10% of the time away from the duty location.

Recent Graduates must sign a Participant Agreement with the Agency.

Positions are open to:

  • Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. Short-term training programs (e.g. several two-week programs completed) are not considered an academic course of study.
  • Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed six years after degree or certificate completion

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience;

if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

To qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience GS-7:
One year of specialized experience which includes experience in a developmental capacity applying electrical engineering concepts, principles, and practices in a wide range of engineering duties concerned with the design, construction, installation of a variety of diverse projects for large industrial and office buildings. Assist in determining efficient, effective, and feasible solutions to meet the project or situation requirements and constraints.

OR

Education:

One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to-do the work of the position, such as:
Electrical Engineer field of study.

OR Superior Academic Achievement:
In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.

OR Combination of

Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education Basic Qualification for Electrical Engineer (Recent Graduate):
For any of the titles and occupational series this position is announced as you MUST possess one of the following:

A bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited educational institution in professional engineering.

A combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
