Aerodyne Industries Careers seeks a Weld Tooling Design Engineer to design, develop, and optimize weld tooling, jigs, and fixtures supporting NASA and human spaceflight programs. In this role, you will create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and GD&T for aerospace weld tooling, collaborating closely with welding, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure safety, precision, and manufacturability. You will support design reviews, configuration control, and continuous improvement in a mission-driven, collaborative environment dedicated to enabling NASA missions and advanced space systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop weld tooling, jigs, and fixtures for aerospace hardware and ground support equipment.
- Create 3
- D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed fabrication drawings with GD&T.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, welding, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and weld integrity.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups and basic structural/thermal considerations for tooling designs.
- Support design reviews, configuration control, and documentation for NASA and government programs.
- Coordinate with suppliers and machine shops on tooling fabrication, materials, and finishing.
- Implement design changes based on test results, nonconformances, and production feedback.
- Ensure compliance with relevant aerospace, safety, and welding standards and specifications.
- Provide floor support during weld tooling installation, tryout, and production ramp-up.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of weld tooling standards, methods, and libraries.
Required Skills
- Weld tooling design3
- D CAD modeling (e.g., Solid
- Works, Creo, NX, CATIA)
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Mechanical design for manufacturability
- Fixture and jig design
- Tolerance stack-up analysis
- Understanding of welding processes (MIG, TIG, resistance, etc.)
- Engineering drawing and documentation standards
- Basic structural/thermal considerations for tooling
- Configuration management and design review participation
