Job OverviewThe PCAS organization needs a mechanical engineer to support the development, build, and verification of control actuation systems, including detailed mechanical design, earned‑value management, test design and execution, and systems engineering. Responsibilities may shift based on program needs and skill sets.
Responsibilities- Provide mechanical engineering support for control actuation system programs.
- Perform detailed mechanical design, earned‑value management, test design, execution, and systems engineering tasks.
- Coach and review work of lower‑level professionals.
- Engage in hands‑on hardware work: engineering builds, hardware integration, tuning, and verification.
- Collaborate with control system technology experts to accelerate technical growth.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering or a related field, or a STEM degree with minimum 3 years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of control mechanism development domain.
- Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).
- Ability to deconstruct high‑level tasks into discrete work packages and tasks.
- Proficiency in free body diagram generation.
- Experience with 3D modeling, e.g., Pro/Engineer/CREO.
- Matlab/Simulink and dSpace experience.
- Systems or mechanical engineering of servo controls experience.
- Experience with CAS requirements, architecture, risk, verification, validation, system performance and function, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Experience with control actuation systems that use permanent magnet brush and brushless DC motors.
- Experience with feedback control systems, sizing, testing, integration, design‑for‑manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation and analysis.
- Knowledge of fabrication techniques: machined parts, injection molded parts, hobbing, broaching, sheet metal fabrication, BLDC motors, wire harness/flex harnesses.
- Experience with corrosion‑resistant steels and aluminum alloys.
