The Civil/Structural Engineer will:- Develop designs for non-flight hardware including Structural and Mechanical Hardware
- Work with large assembly and subassembly models in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) program as well as other new and existing programs at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC)
- Provide engineering design functions for time critical hardware designs, and support on-going manufacturing of complex assemblies.
- Coordination with NASA project level customers across organizations to ensure mission success
- Work with a large team of engineers and designers to select hardware components, develop design and analysis of structures and mechanisms, and provide fabrication support to shop personnel
- Participate in task meetings and conferences as requested
- Collaborate with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers on the development of integrated flight hardware
- Develop and deliver reports and presentations to MSFC and ESSCA management as needed
Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Engineering from an accredited school. Must have five (5) years of job-related experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on civil-structural design and analysis. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE) desired. Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR .
The ideal candidate will be an engineer who possesses the following skills:- Educational emphasis in civil-structural design and analysis
- Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)
- Expertise with civil-structural analysis software including operating and interpreting results.
- Familiarity with AISC's 16th Edition Steel Construction Manual
- Knowledge of discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
- Proficiency with RISA structural software, Hilti Profis anchorage software, AutoCAD.
- Experience in analysis of joints containing mechanical fasteners or welds
- Working knowledge of CAD software, (CREO preferred).
- Familiarity with large assemblies and large assembly management techniques
- Familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5M-2018)
- Familiarity in using PDM system for active CAD data management - WINDCHILL is preferred.
- Proficiency formulating engineering calculations using excel, Math Cad, etc.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
- Experience with NASA Design Specifications, and Standards is highly desired
- Ensures compliance with established codes, procedures, work instructions, standards, guides, precedents, methods, and techniques within discipline.
- Conform to established civil-structural engineering design criteria, apply and provide guidance, evaluation and assessment for facility projects.
- Provide support for shop drawings and site plans as needed for various construction projects, redline, and as-built drawings.
- Perform facility condition assessments on government-owned facilities.
- Directly interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from conceptual design to final product.
- Produce structural calculation and drawing packages for customer record and submittal to AHJ as required per IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI
- Develop structural designs for products and systems, including steel framing, supports, foundations, and connections, for multiple complex projects.
- Perform complete structural analysis, including Finite Element Modeling (FEM), to validate design integrity under varying load conditions.
