The candidate will provide Radio Frequency (RF) Analysis, Simulation, and Development support for space rated RF communication system designs and provide inter-operability analysis in a multi-system electromagnetic environment for programs and missions supporting NASA’s Moon Base Utilities and Infrastructure Group, Deep Space Communications, and future RF infrastructures.
The successful candidate will perform tasks such as:
- Provide analyses of existing transmitters, receivers, and antenna designs.
- Participate in requirements and data reviews providing inputs and comments.
- Support test campaigns in the internal and external laboratories.
- Support and generate RF subsystem trade studies.
- Perform link margin analyses using various modulation protocols and environmental influences.
- Write or collaborate communication system design and analyses reports.
- Create computational models of antennas, antenna systems, and spacecraft.
- Perform radio frequency interference/radio frequency compatibility analyses.
- Provide procurement specifications for RF components and subsystems.
Should be familiar with the following (experience is preferred):
Visual Basic, MathCAD and/or Mat Lab, ANSYS High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS), GPS/GNSS Simulators, PNT / Communication Waveform Analyzers (BPSK, QAM, QPSK), Lab View
Must be a US Citizen.
Education requirements:
A degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited university and 5 or more years of experience in Antenna and RF systems design, test, and evaluation.
- Ph.D. with some experience
- MS with at least 3 years of experience, or
- BS with at least 5-10 years of experience.
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).
Physical Requirements:Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
