Anakim Consulting Inc. is seekinga Computer Network Engineer II to support the network infrastructure at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). In this role, you will work directly and indirectly with NASA customers, technicians, network engineers, and network architects to execute critical network design changes and modifications. You will also identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues during customer-impacting events and escalations, ensuring maximum availability, security, and performance across the NASA network ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities- Network Design and Execution: Read, interpret, and deliver network design proposals for both technical engineering teams and executive leadership presentations. Execute switch OS and router design implementations, including step-by-step refresh and replacement procedures for legacy equipment.
- Change and Configuration Management: Perform change tasks via Command Line Interface (CLI) using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP), and Work Instructions (WI). Apply industry best practices and independent judgment to complete implementations when standard documentation is unavailable.
- Troubleshooting and Outage Resolution: Analyze and determine solutions for network outages, degradations, and customer-impacting issues. Perform service validation following changes to assess traffic behavior and prevent service disruptions.
- Capacity and Security Optimization: Conduct periodic capacity and operational reviews of network devices. Recommend and implement designs to remediate security vulnerabilities, resolve constraints, and boost overall network performance.
- WLAN and Infrastructure Expansion: Analyze Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) environments and design new Wireless Access Point (WAP) deployments to expand capacity, reduce bottlenecks, and increase bandwidth.

Collaboration:
Provide technical input, guidance, and strategic recommendations to government stakeholders on network operations and maintenance. Create reference documentation and presentations for long-term operational use.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship, no dual citizenship
- Secure Access: Current NASA Public Trust/MBI or ability to obtain Public Trust
- Work Schedule: Availability to support on-site schedule at MSFC
- 5-8 years of related computer network engineering experience with
- 5 years of direct network engineering experience with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field OR
- 8+ years of direct network engineering experience with an Associate (AA/AS) degree
- Required: Current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
- Preferred: CompTIA Security+ certification
- Vendor Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco and Juniper network platforms.
