Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally, the HCA assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient‑care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients, including discharge.
Clerical support includes directing incoming calls, responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts and unit files, and overseeing secretarial supply levels while maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
HS/GED required.
Preferred EducationCompletion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
License, Certification and/or RegistrationBCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation.
ExperienceRequires previous patient care and/or two years clerical experience with a successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient‑care aide positions will be considered.
Additional Skills/AbilitiesFamiliarity with medical terminology preferred.
