AICU is an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU located at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus. Orientation consists of working with an experienced staff and typically lasts 6‑12 weeks, depending on experience. AICU is the only adult critical care unit on the Women/Children campus and offers a challenging workflow for RNs. The unit receives a variety of patients, primarily critical medical patients, as well as Antepartum, Postpartum, GYN Oncology, GYN, ENT, and any adult patient at WC that requires intensive monitoring.
RNs in AICU are trained to care for a variety of critical situations including hemorrhage, critical obstetrics, CRRT, ventilators, and titrating drips. The unit has four beds wired for fetal monitoring, overseen by an L&D RN on campus for our critical Antepartum patient. RNs are responsible for all Rapid Responses and Code Blue situations for the adult population ff works closely with healthcare providers to deliver excellent care and compassion to patients.
Our staff has the opportunity to participate in Shared Governance, Clinical Ladder programs, and CEU offerings available online and at Corporate University.
Education: Graduate of a state board School of Nursing with current Alabama or multi‑state licensure.
ExperienceExperience: Experience preferred; new graduates accepted.
Additional Skills & AbilitiesAdditional Skill/Abilities: BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period. ACLS within one year of hire.
