Position Overview

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2

BMC) program is a crucial part of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that allows the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, monitor the battle collectively, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapons systems to meet global and regional mission objectives. C2

BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats of all ranges during all flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and regionally to enhance performance. C2

BMC is vital for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate current and future missile defense system capabilities.

Essential Functions
  • Defining and overseeing the implementation of the software architecture for a Java-based missile defense command and control system, and ensuring the architecture aligns with the design principles of the C2

    BMC program.
  • Providing direct technical support to the chief engineer and chief architect, and coordinating across engineering disciplines (e.g., Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Integration & Test, Operations & Sustainment).
  • Conducting trade studies and analysis for ongoing and future C2

    BMC development efforts.
  • Maintaining the ARTs software architecture artifacts.
  • Managing the development of the ART software design.
  • Assessing the consequences and effects of proposed architectural adjustments to the software baselines.
  • Analyzing system performance by quantifying results, identifying bottlenecks, and measuring throughput.
  • Conducting support briefings, presentations, and demonstrations for customers.
  • Assisting in analyzing, designing, and implementing cyber requirements in the software.
  • Collaborating with other program architects to implement enterprise architecture goals and guidance.
  • Effective communication to connect engineering teams, customers, program leadership, and individual contributors to develop solutions.
  • Mentoring and educating fellow engineers.
  • Creative problem solving within technical and programmatic constraints.
  • Conducting trade studies and analysis across software engineering disciplines.
  • Maintaining excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently, and willingness to work in a highly dynamic environment while representing C2

    BMC at the highest levels of the MDA/BC customer.
  • Understanding modern software architecture paradigms, such as event-driven and service-oriented architecture.
  • Knowledge and experience with virtualization, containerization, and orchestration.
  • Ability to implement automation and CI/CD pipelines to enforce standards, enhance quality, and ensure test repeatability.
  • Being a self-starter capable of initiating research and clearly documenting results. Occasional travel may be necessary.
Basic Qualifications
