Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for an Engineer Software – SA (26-083) to join our talented and diverse team. Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position OverviewThe Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2
BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2
BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2
BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
This role is for a Software Engineer on the C2
BMC program. The candidate will handle Java software development within the Systems Architecture (Sys-Ar) of the Regional Applications team in Huntsville, AL. Working under guidance, they will bring experience from various systems and software areas, along with a broad understanding of related disciplines, application impacts, and customer sectors.
- Responsible for analyzing and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support.
- Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products.
- Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications.
- Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs.
- Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the overall efficiency of the operating system.
- Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases.

- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 2 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 0 years of relevant work experience; or 6 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree.
