The GDS JPO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Systems Engineer to support the development of the Guam Defense System (GDS) Battle Manager and planner. The incumbent will serve as a key technical authority, responsible for synthesizing complex software designs and integrating functions across multiple government and industry teams.
This role is central to the government's oversight of the battle manager and planner design, which utilizes Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) within a broader GDS system-of-systems digital environment. The ideal candidate will thrive in a rapid development framework, providing critical engineering insight to assess performance, manage risk, and ensure the successful delivery of a critical national defense capability. Duties:
* MBSE and Digital Engineering:
Lead the application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools like Magic Draw/Cameo to develop, model, and maintain the software architecture, requirements, and design for the battle manager and planner, ensuring alignment with the overall GDS system-of-systems digital environment.
* System & Software Integration:
Collaborate extensively with multiple government and industry development teams to synthesize disparate designs and integrate software functions into cohesive battle manager and planner solutions. Interface directly with GDS architecture and systems engineers to ensure the software design is compatible with the broader system architecture and external system interfaces.
* Dev Sec Ops (DSO) Integration:
Drive the effective integration of MBSE models with DSO processes to establish and maintain a complete digital thread. Ensure seamless traceability from initial requirements and architecture models all the way through to backlog features, software code, and automated testing within a CI/CD pipeline.
* Requirements and Traceability Management:
Establish and maintain end-to-end traceability from high-level operational requirements through architecture models, backlog features (e.g., in Jira), software code, and test results, ensuring every change is captured and verifiable.
* Risk and Performance Assessment:
Proactively assess software development performance, schedule risks, and technical challenges. Identify and recommend effective mitigation strategies to government leadership to keep the program on track.
* Acquisition and Prototyping Support:
Support rapid software development and accelerated acquisition prototyping efforts, providing systems engineering rigor to fast-paced development cycles and ensuring technical objectives are met.
* Stakeholder Communication:
Prepare and present technical briefings, analyses, and recommendations to DoD senior leaders and key stakeholders to inform and influence decision-making. Qualifications Required Skills/Experience :
* Strong understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and its application to complex software systems and software architecture.
* Demonstrated experience in systems/software engineering, particularly in requirements analysis, architecture design, and integration.
* Experience with agile methodologies and backlog management tools (e.g., Jira).
* Proven ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, manage competing tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
* Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to brief complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leaders.
* Must have a current driver's license.
* Ability to travel up to 10%.
* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* An active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment. Education Requirements :
* A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field is highly preferred. Desired Skills :
* Direct experience with MBSE tools such as Magic Draw or Cameo.
* Proficiency in mapping system requirements and architecture to a development backlog and maintaining a digital thread throughout the software lifecycle.
* Experience with missile defense, Command and Control (C2), battle management, or other large-scale DoD software systems.
* Familiarity with rapid/accelerated acquisition pathways (e.g., DoD 5000.87 Software Acquisition Pathway).
* Experience integrating MBSE models into a Dev Sec Ops CI/CD pipeline to automate model validation and testing.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance. Overview People First. Technology Always. People Tec, Inc. is an employee-owned small business founded in Huntsville, AL…
