We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux System Administrator with proven expertise in AWS cloud environments to support mission‑critical systems within a classified defense program. This position is fully onsite in Huntsville, AL, supporting a federal intel agency. The ideal candidate has deep experience managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or similar distributions, implementing automation and infrastructure‑as‑code solutions, and maintaining high-availability, secure cloud environments in compliance with DoD security standards.
Key Responsibilities- Administer and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) in classified and unclassified environments.
- Design, implement, and maintain AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2, S3, Cloud Watch, IAM, RDS, EFS).
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and deployment tasks using Ansible, Terraform, or Cloud Formation.
- Monitor system performance, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement performance tuning.
- Patch and harden Linux systems to meet DISA STIG and RMF compliance requirements.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and security policies in accordance with DoD standards.
- Support and integrate CI/CD pipelines and Dev Sec Ops practices.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure continuous monitoring and incident response.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum sprints, providing infrastructure support to development and QA teams.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of hands‑on Linux system administration experience (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Proven experience managing cloud infrastructure in AWS (VPC, EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, Cloud Formation, Cloud Watch).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, load balancers).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git Lab CI/CD, AWS Code Pipeline).
- Working knowledge of security hardening (STIGs, CIS benchmarks) and RMF controls.
- Excellent problem‑solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS).
- Experience with AWS Gov Cloud or classified AWS regions.
- AWS Certified Sys Ops Administrator or Solutions Architect.
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
- Security+, CISSP, or equivalent DoD 8570 certification.
- Exposure to monitoring tools (Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios).
