Job Goal
- To assist school personnel and district office in communication with families in the specified language(s).
Reports To
- Principal and/or ESOL Coordinator as assigned
Supervises
- None
- Prepares and maintains accurate, complete, and proper records, data, and documentation as requested by the school principal and/or ESOL Coordinator (as assigned), for the purpose of preparing reports, monitoring activities, and complying with applicable district policies and state/federal laws and regulations.
- Attends various types of District related meetings, during school and occasionally after-hours, for the purpose of serving as interpreter.
- Communicates clearly and concisely, orally, in writing, and via electronic communications media in both English and the specified language(s).
- Translates/interprets verbatim and idiomatic materials and conversations for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of information between languages.
- Verifies translations made by others for the purpose of reviewing and editing materials for accuracy, context, readability, grammar, and style.
- Performs a wide variety of clerical work for the purpose of supporting the district in providing necessary records/materials in English and the preferred language(s).
- Maintains student confidentiality and familiarity with the school's safety plan and actively contributes to a safe school environment by following applicable procedures and laws.
- Notifies appropriate personnel regarding evidence of child abuse/neglect (as required by state law), as well as severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
- Travels to various HCS schools and facilities to perform job-related duties.
- Participates in workshops, conferences, and/or meetings for the purpose of maintaining skills for professional growth and/or conveying information.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Two (2) years of college preferred. Spanish/English bilingual fluency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing is required. A demonstration of proficiency will be required. Other multilingual language skills may be considered based upon student population languages.
Physical Requirements
Requires light work exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Job involves sitting most of the time.
Terms of Employment Nine month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.This specification has been designed to represent the general nature and level of work found in this position.
